But where do vegans get their protein???
What I got from this article: Americans don't eat enough produce because so much money and land drive animal agriculture.
> Improving these rates is particularly challenging because just 2% of US farmland is devoted to growing fruits and vegetables, according to UCS. Reinhardt said farmers would need to grow almost twice as much produce just for Americans to get the recommended amount of servings.
> “The food industry is not exactly working with public health on this, there’s a multimillion-dollar industry working to get people to eat [processed foods],” Reinhardt said.
Wow congratulations and good on you. Amazing the way perception changes once you're no longer engaging in the behavior. Humans have a really powerful bias to accept things that are in line with our behaviors/identity and dismiss things that are not. Once you give up those behaviors and identity, your mind becomes so much more open to all of that stuff.
This makes me think that helping people to change to a vegan diet for a period of time might be the most effective advocacy-- like paying for prepared meals or something. You could do it for like, 500 people raising funds nationally, and then have the people who converted pay it forward. Might be on par with or more effective than other forms of advocacy.
What made you originally try going veggie after being so vehemently anti-vegan?
Also, a lot of people are overwhelmed by trying to go cold turkey. No sense in it. Keep in mind that it's better on all counts if you have 10% reduction for a year, much less several, than if you are vegan for a month and then give up. Reduce at a pace that is comfortable to you.
Also, for recipes:
^ look great but haven’t tried making and so may not live up to expectations
^ easy and good. Solid option
Favorites that are super easy are from Anthony William. Lot of new age stuff in his books, but his recipes are amazing (like, best I’ve ever had and super easy). His book life changing foods has a ton of recipes and he has a bunch on his blog.
Sorry bud, 😊 I did say I was on mobile so the formatting would be odd.
I’m honestly not trying to pick a fight! I was just pointing out that occasionally someone will do a full 180 in their way of thinking. I am one of them.
I have lots of recipes that I would like to share but just thought I would try and introduce myself politely. I’m sorry if I didn’t get it right.
> I’ve promised myself that if I start to fall off the wagon I will watch cowspiracy or something!
Can I suggest Earthlings for a real kick in the pants?
Congrats OP, it makes my heart swell to see veganism on the rise. You've become part of something powerful, and I truly, truly believe people will look back on us someday the way we look back on abolitionists of the past. Please stay here and show us what amazing food you discover!
I too thought the exact same thing about vegans and veganism before actually looking into it. I can't believe I was so negative towards something I really didn't know much about. I guess the same knee jerk reaction is behind racism, homophobia and other social issues. I blame the media! Seriously, my whole negative idea of veganism stemmed from how they were portrayed at large as extreme hippies with no view of the bigger picture outside of thier 'save the animals' stance. I didn't even know any vegans before making the change myself.
Be eating one of those tonight myself. Yum
Doesn't even matter that it wont fit in my mouth. I'm putting it down my pants.
I LOVE that place! I just started working down the street from here and was so happy to find a vegan breakfast place! Still need to try that beyond meat burger though 😍
Terri sells the Beyond Meat Burger?! I might have to order this for lunch today.
too dark. had to report
They don't serve hummus in federal penitentiaries...
If them teeth weren't made for chewing animals then what does that say about ours?
this has been my current argument to the canine bullshit. actually doubles for the protein one. i basically just say im on the gorilla diet when people ask.
yay! the 7-layer and the cherry garcia are the best, imo. try those too.
I had some tonight for the first time. I cried tears of soy.
Tried ASDA and Morrisons, only Tesco have these, only reason we go there lol.
If they have it, try the peanut butter, chocolate one too. That one is so addicting.
If they have Chunky Monkey, get like, 10. If not, tell the manager you want it ASAP.
That shit is soooooo good.
Ya, Tesco has 3 flavours. Hopefully there are plans to release more ☺️
Interesting, I’ve only ever seen the lid say “Non-Dairy” in the states.
You can easily buy all of the ingredients for any of those recipes for less than the cost of a full meal at McDonalds...
I just downvote automatically. They aren't getting their internet points from me! buahaha^ha^^ha
People aren't obligated to post a recipe, sometimes they just want to show off their hard work to the people who appreciate it.
Playing devil's advocate here. If I were to post a recipe for something like soup, it would look more like:
Spices that you like.
I doubt anyone would find that particularly helpful >. <
I agree, OP. As someone whos curious about being vegan, it would be awesome to see recipes so i can try this stuff.
Only thing that died to make my fur was a wild acrylic.
Living in Canada, it's a fur epidemic. Canada Goose jackets are everywhere :(
lol that lad's got 10 written all over him
Oh but I heard it's a personal choice to eat meat. Now here it is, affecting many people.
>Groundwater pollution dates back to the 1990s
>“They need to correct this and get back to full production because Mountaire hires an awful lot of people in this state, and Sussex County needs as many jobs as possible,” he said.
Ah, as always, just follow the money.
I recently protested at this slaughterhouse as part of a local save group... The smell.... Is disgusting... There are homes directly next to this place... I can't imagine waking up to that putrid stench everyday.
Moral inconsistency is part of what it is to be human.
You might have had better results with a different approach. A lot of people don't make the connection that killing animals for meat is nothing more than killing animals for fun. The reason people kill animals for meat isn't any different from why people kill elephants: the enjoyment that the person gets from it.
Getting people to recognize that eating animals for meat is killing animals solely for fun leads to a lot more reflection in my experience.
I really love your comment though. It's so spot on.
The issue is that most people do not realize that their consumption habits are driving these animals that they pretend to love to extinction.
So a cows are killed too won't work if it's not presented alongside the fact that *eating cows* kills elephants too.
They just straight up said no? lol Wow. Great reasoning, there, buddy.
Boo hoo. Not everything in life is about getting a girlfriend.
People who go vegan for social brownie points are sociopathic.
Jack off or go on Tinder.
When I lived in Dallas, there wasn't a huge vegan community; finding datable guys was tough. After I moved to PDX, there were more dateable guys, but I had to get over the shyness thing.
My husband also had a hard time meeting vegan women when he lived in Rochester, NY.
TL; DR some of it is location, some of it is personality and some is finding a compatible fit
My boyfriend is an omnivore and hard core meat eater. Tbh a vegan partner would be lovely. I'll even take a vegetarian if it means I don't have see the rare steak spilling blood. I just look away when we have dinner
Honestly, when I saw the title, I thought you'd be talking abt women falling all over you. Idk where the compassionate women are around you, but I know soooo many who would jump at a chance for a date with a vegan male. They're so rare lol
Just started seeing a vegan girl, it's pretty great
It's a weird thing being single and vegan. I transitioned while in a relationship influenced by my ex. She left me 6 months ago and it's really hard, even in a big city with tons of options, to actually meet people who are cool with it. Now I just cook at home by myself and at least enjoy the food. I'll get a dog soon, at least they won't care what I eat lol.
Who told you that? Closing yourself off to a lifestyle shared by the majority will close you off to the majority. You've drastically reduced your number of potential romantic interests. Don't fret though. Less is more. Anyone who would write you off for veganism isn't gonna be a good partner anyway. Finding someone will be more difficult, but finding someone who's worth it will be easier.
LOL. No one else seems to be feeling it. Come on guys, lighten up.
I'd rather be a single vegan than a hippocritical omni in a relationship
Lmao vegan male with girlfriend here. She’s the reason I went vegan, having to accommodate her diet made me incorporate those foods into my diet. After understanding her motives for veganism and eating vegan food that was really good and never left me feeling bloated or grossed out like I would when I consumed animal products. Vegan girlfriends are the best girlfriends, compassion and care are so important for a loving relationship.
Eh, I'm doing this for myself.
